Hyderabad: Several persons suffered injuries and many vehicles damaged during stone pelting by two groups at Gudimalkapur following a row over suspected transportation of cattle.
The trouble began when a few persons affiliated to a local ‘gau raksha’ group stopped a DCM vehicle carrying plywood sheets. The DCM driver was pulled out and allegedly thrashed by the gau rakshaks. On noticing the driver being thrashed by the gau rakshak team, the local youngsters gathered at the spot leading to a stand off between the two groups. As a result, some people pelted stones leading to a free-for-all, the police personnel who reached the spot also faced a barrage of stones leading to injuries to three policemen. Several vehicles parked outside the function halls located on the Gudimalkapur road were also targeted by the mobs.
The police sensing the situation going out of hand, resorted to a lathi charge to disperse crowds. The police reinforcements were rushed to the spot to prevent trouble from spreading further. Senior officials rushed to the spot and beefed up security in the area.
Following the skirmish, traffic flow on the busy Mehdipatnam to Attapur road was affected for some time. The traffic flow was restored by the police.
Later, AIMIM Nampally MLA Majid Hussain Meraj staged a sit-in protest in front of the DCP (Golconda), demanding action against the persons who damaged the truck and assaulted the driver and cleaner. Later, Joint Commissioner of Police, Tafseer Iqubal reached the spot and held talks with the MLA and assured to investigate the case thoroughly.
