New Delhi: The Telangana government has withdrawn its writ petition filed in the Supreme Court regarding the Polavaram-Nallamalasagar project. The hearing took place today, with Senior Advocate Abhishek Singhvi representing Telangana.
Following the proceedings, Telangana Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy spoke to the media, explaining that the Chief Justice of India (CJI) suggested the state approach the court again through Article 131 in the form of a Civil Suit. Based on this suggestion, the petition was withdrawn.
Key Points from the Arguments:
Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy highlighted the core issues raised by the state:
- Excessive Water Usage: The primary concern is that water usage should not exceed the original allocations. Telangana argued that the Andhra Pradesh (AP) government has committed several violations in this regard.
- Disregard for Stop-Work Orders: The court was informed that stop-work orders are not being implemented.
- Unauthorized Expansion: While AP was allocated 484.5 TMC, efforts are allegedly being made to utilize more.
- Lack of Clearances: Telangana brought to the court’s attention that the AP government is proceeding without necessary permissions from the Godavari and Krishna River Management Boards or the Apex Council.
- Design Deviations: The state argued against any modifications or additions to the original design and form of the Polavaram project.
