
Hyderabad: Considering the current weather conditions and the possibility of drought, the Telangana government has designed this program to encourage the cultivation of drought-resistant crops such as pulses, oilseeds, millets, and vegetables. The objective is to provide farmers with quality seeds of these crops at one location and promote suitable crop choices under changing climatic conditions.
The Telangana Government started these seed fairs at 2,601 Rythu Vedikas across the state on Tuesday and they will be available till June 30.
The government has taken special measures to ensure that farmers can purchase certified seeds of various crops at affordable prices according to their needs. The Agriculture Department has made extensive arrangements to ensure the availability of quality seeds.
The seed fairs will offer pulse crop seeds such as green gram (moong), black gram (urad), and red gram (pigeon pea). Oilseed crop seeds such as sesame and groundnut. various millet seeds, vegetable seeds.
In addition, modern fertilizers such as Nano Urea and Nano DAP, which play a key role in integrated nutrient management, will also be available for purchase.
Keeping in mind farmers’ preferences and market demand, fine rice varieties including BPT-5204, RNR-15048 (Telangana Sona), Jai Sriram, KNM-1638, KNM-7715, WGL-44, HMT Sona, will also be made available.
During the seed fairs, officials from the Agriculture Department, Horticulture Department, and agricultural scientists will provide guidance on Seed selection, seed treatment, integrated crop management, fertilizer use, water management, pest and disease control and other scientific farming practices.
Considering the El Niño situation, farmers will also receive guidance on alternative crops that require less water and on selecting crops suitable for prevailing climatic conditions.
Dr. B. Gopi, IAS, Director of Agriculture, Telangana, urged farmers to make full use of the seed fairs by purchasing quality certified seeds and adopting scientific cultivation practices to achieve higher yields.
The Agriculture Department stated that, under the slogan “Quality Seed – The Foundation for Higher Yield,” all essential types of seeds have been made available for farmers.
