Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Saturday strongly criticised the Telangana Government for its ‘failure’ to seriously address drug-related crimes. Bandi Sanjay alleged that the State Government’s enforcement efforts are merely ‘seasonal,’ focused only around festivals and the New Year. Sanjay pointed to a key inquiry from the KCR regime, a high-profile drug case investigated by former Excise Enforcement director Akun Sabharwal. He questioned why the present Government has not acted on the detailed report from this investigation.
The Union Minister claimed that influential figures and film celebrities are implicated in the original probe but crucial evidence is allegedly suppressed. According to him, during the interrogation by Sabharwal’s team, audio and video recordings of the accused’s statements were created but then blocked from release. He further alleged that then chief secretary Somesh Kumar had seized the entire report and all recorded evidence.
