Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu chose a simple and symbolic way to mark his 76th birthday today, visiting the Patamata Anna Canteen in Vijayawada to have breakfast alongside the public. Accompanied by his wife, Nara Bhuvaneswari, the Chief Minister used the occasion to reinforce his government’s commitment to welfare and social service.
Upon arriving at the canteen, the couple was greeted with a festive atmosphere as local residents and beneficiaries gathered to extend their birthday wishes. In a gesture of humility, the Chief Minister and Bhuvaneswari personally served breakfast to those present before sitting down to share a meal of idli and chutney with the crowd. Naidu even enquired with the organizers about the price, attempting to pay for a token before being reminded that meals were being served free of charge across the state today in his honor.
The visit served as more than just a celebration, as Naidu took the time to interact with common citizens about the quality of the food and the implementation of other government schemes. He spoke with auto-rickshaw drivers and sanitation workers, asking for their feedback on initiatives like “Thalliki Vandanam” and free bus travel for women. Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude, noting that the ₹5 meals at Anna Canteens provided a significant lifeline for daily wage earners.
To commemorate the day, Nara Bhuvaneswari made a personal donation of Rs. 76 lakh to the Anna Canteen trust, covering the operational costs for all 269 canteens across Andhra Pradesh for the entire day. Her contribution ensured that breakfast, lunch, and dinner were served free of cost to the thousands of people who rely on the canteens daily.
The Chief Minister’s “working birthday” also saw a flood of greetings from national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan. Despite the high-profile well-wishes from New Delhi, Naidu’s decision to spend his morning at a public canteen highlighted the grassroots-focused approach that has defined his current term in office.
