Vijayawada, March 17: The Andhra Pradesh government on Tuesday announced a 50% discount on interest charged on pending property tax dues, offering relief to property owners while aiming to boost municipal revenue collections before the close of the financial year.
The concession will be applicable to arrears of property tax in all urban local bodies, including municipalities and municipal corporations across the state. Taxpayers who clear their outstanding dues within the stipulated deadline—by the end of March 2026—will be eligible to avail the reduced interest rate.
Officials said that necessary government orders have already been issued and local authorities have been directed to create awareness among citizens to ensure maximum participation. The scheme is expected to benefit a large number of taxpayers who have accumulated dues over time, as it significantly reduces the burden of interest payable.
The move is part of the government’s broader effort to improve tax compliance and enhance revenue collection efficiency. By offering a limited-time incentive, authorities hope to encourage defaulters to settle their dues voluntarily rather than face higher penalties later.
Such measures are typically introduced towards the end of the financial year to strengthen the fiscal position of urban local bodies. Previous initiatives of a similar nature have seen positive response from the public, contributing to improved collections while easing financial pressure on taxpayers.
Officials have urged property owners to make use of this opportunity and clear their pending taxes within the deadline to benefit from the interest concession.
