India’s First CMP Pad Technologies Hub Inagurated by TG Minister Sridhar Babu

Hyderabad: Telangana has taken another significant step forward in the semiconductor manufacturing sector. With the initiative of the State Government, India’s first hub dedicated to Chemical Mechanical Polishing (CMP) Pad Technologies, a critical component in chip manufacturing, has been established in Hyderabad.

The centre, set up at T-Works in collaboration with Japan-based Toho Koki Seisakusho Co. Ltd., was formally inaugurated on Saturday by Telangana Minister for IT and Industries Duddilla Sridhar Babu.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Sridhar Babu said the State Government is working in a planned and strategic manner to transform Telangana into one of India’s leading semiconductor hubs. He said the newly launched CMP Pad Technology Hub would play a crucial role in achieving this goal.

CMP pads, which are used to planarize wafers during semiconductor chip manufacturing, are currently imported entirely from overseas. With the establishment of this hub, CMP pad technology, which until now has been available only abroad, has been introduced in India for the first time, with Hyderabad serving as the platform.

The Minister said the centre would provide training and technical support for research to students, researchers, innovators, startups and industries. He explained that joint research initiatives would be undertaken in partnership with leading educational institutions, research organisations, industries and MSMEs, with the aim of manufacturing CMP pads domestically within the next 18 to 24 months.

He further stated that Telangana is collaborating with countries such as Japan to gain access to cutting-edge technologies in the semiconductor sector. A dedicated roadmap is also being prepared to develop a comprehensive ecosystem in the State, covering the entire value chain from research to chip manufacturing.

Takuya Nishimura of Toho Koki Seisakusho Co. Ltd.; Swastik Kulkarni, Director General of JETRO Bengaluru; Daisuke Tanji, Founder and CEO of IndoBox; Shigemaro Yasui, Chairman of the Japan India Business Bureau; Anudeep Durishetty, Joint Secretary of the IT Department; Joginder Tanikella, CEO of T-Works; and others attended the event.
