
Gorakhpur: On the occasion of “World Environment Day” on the Northeast Railway, various programs related to environmental conservation were organized on the 17th day of the “World Environment Day Campaign,” being conducted from May 15 to June 5, 2026. These activities were held at the headquarters and major stations of all divisions, workshops, depots, offices, railway colonies, and hospitals.
In this sequence, under the World Environment Day campaign on the Lucknow Division, various programs focusing on water and energy conservation were organized at major stations of the Lucknow Division under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager, Lucknow, Shri Gaurav Aggarwal. In this regard, awareness marches (morning rallies) were organized at Gorakhpur, Lucknow Junction, and Basti stations to promote water and energy conservation, and passengers and staff were encouraged to save energy. People were made aware about the use of bio-composters. During this, energy-saving posters were distributed in offices, passengers were informed about the harmful effects of single-use plastic and its alternatives, and passengers as well as sanitation workers were provided information about e-waste and its proper disposal.
On the Varanasi Division, under the supervision of Divisional Railway Manager, Varanasi, Shri Ashish Jain, water conservation campaigns were organized at Azamgarh, Varanasi City, Banaras, Bhatni, Ballia, Chhapra, Deoria Sadar, Ghazipur City, Mau, Prayagraj Rambagh, Siwan, and Salempur stations. Suggestions were given to passengers and staff to conserve rainwater, and a special cleanliness drive was conducted in station premises, railway colonies, and nearby areas to maintain greenery. Tree plantation and plant distribution were also carried out at stations. Additionally, cloth bags were distributed to passengers and staff to reduce plastic pollution. At major stations, awareness activities such as morning rallies, monitoring of plastic pollution, social media campaigns to eliminate plastic pollution, and the use of posters and digital content were conducted to educate passengers and staff about environmental protection and reducing plastic waste.
On the Izzatnagar Division, under the supervision of Divisional Railway Manager, Izzatnagar, Ms. Veena Sinha, various awareness and public participation programs on water and energy conservation were organized at different stations of the division. The objective of these programs was to promote water and energy conservation, environmental sustainability, and the principles of Mission LiFE. During the campaign, railway employees, passengers, vendors, and other stakeholders at various stations, offices, and railway premises were made aware of water usage, water conservation methods, and energy-saving practices. People were encouraged to adopt LED lighting, switch off unnecessary electrical appliances, and follow energy-efficient behaviors. Posters and banners related to water conservation, energy efficiency, recycling, e-waste management, and sustainable lifestyles were displayed in railway premises to raise awareness among passengers and the general public. Special emphasis was also placed on adopting eco-friendly habits under Mission LiFE and encouraging public participation in conserving natural resources.
