OrbitAID Aerospace plans to orbit two satellites to carry out docking

Chennai, Jan 19: Even though the life of its maiden satellite AayulSat was snuffed out midway to its intended orbit in a PSLV rocket disaster on Jan 12, 2026, OrbitAID Aerospace Pvt Ltd plans to orbit two satellites by the end of this year.
The word `aayul’ in the Tamil language means life.
According to the company, the two satellites, Target and Chaser, will carry out autonomous docking and on-orbit refuelling operations.
The proposed mission will not only validate the on-orbit refuelling but also demonstrate the feasibility of life extension pods for in-space life extension of satellites, the company said.
In its social media post, OrbitAID did not mention the name of the rocket it plans to use to orbit the two satellite, Target and Chaser, by this year’s end.
OrbitAID not only plans to send `oil tank satellites’ to refuel in orbit satellites but also is working on a spacecraft that can be used for servicing an orbiting satellite.
It may be recalled that the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), with its SpaDeX mission consisting of two small spacecraft (about 220 kg each – one called Target/SDX01 and the other Chaser/SDX02) had successfully carried out docking, undocking and power transfer between the two spacecrafts in space.
