Mumbai, Jan 14: Mercedes-Benz India has announced that it will begin manufacturing the Maybach GLS at its facility in Pune. With this move, India becomes the first market outside of the United States to produce this ultra-luxury SUV. Previously, the Maybach GLS was sold as a completely built unit, having been imported into the country since 2021. This announcement coincides with the launch of a new Celebration Edition of the model, priced at Rs 4.1 crore (ex-showroom).
Because of the local manufacturing, the prices of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS will now start at Rs 2.75 crore (ex-showroom). This is a significant reduction of around Rs 40 lakh in its prices. The decision from the automaker comes on the back of the fact that India is now among the top five global markets for Mercedes-Maybach for the first time. With the help of locally manufactured units, the brand expects to improve its reach among consumers by reducing the delivery time and offering better accessibility to the vehicle.
Mercedes-Benz India has revealed that it sold 19,007 vehicles in 2025, which the company described as its most successful year for revenue, even though there was a 3 percent decrease in total unit sales compared to 19,565 vehicles sold in 2024.
The luxury vehicle segment, which includes models such as the S-Class, Mercedes-Maybach, and AMG, experienced an 11% growth year-over-year and represented 25% of overall sales. The AMG performance lineup experienced a significant growth of 34%, fueled by the popularity of models like the AMG G63, AMG CLE53, and AMG GLC43.
Sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) increased by 12%, making up 20% of all high-end Mercedes-Benz vehicles sold in India. The company noted that 70% of the electric vehicles sold in 2025 were priced between Rs 1.25 crore and Rs 3.10 crore, with the EQS SUV standing out as the leading luxury electric vehicle in sales.
The brand also revealed, Mercedes-Benz intends to introduce 12 new products in India in 2026, including the CLA BEV featuring the MB.OS operating system. The company will also establish 15 new dealership locations in three markets and enhance 15 existing sites. Franchise partners are set to invest over Rs 450 crore into the retail network.
