HYDERABAD: BRS Working President Kalvakuntla Rama Rao vehemently criticized the Revanth Reddy govt for arrest BRS leaders and farmers who demanded irrigation water for the Juralu ayacut to protect their crops in combined Palamuru district.
He took to social media platform X and shared a video of protesting farmers and BRS cadre who were opposing the arrest of agitators. “It is an extremely despicable act. The illegal detention of former ministers Singireddy Niranjan Reddy, C. Lakshmareddy, Srinivas Goud, former MLAs, and all BRS party leaders is a testament to Revanth’s demonic mentality.
Likewise, the police stopping and detaining hundreds of farmers is the latest example of the ongoing repression in the state. Instead of addressing the plight of farmers whose crops are withering and dying right before their eyes, the Revanth government is conspiring to suppress the farmers and BRS ranks who are ready to protest with just demands.
Having failed as CM, Revanth, to cover up his helplessness, has issued secret orders for the preemptive arrests and house detentions of BRS leaders in several mandals across the district. Even though 9 TMC of water is available in the Juralu project, the Revanth government is callously allowing the green crops to wither by not releasing a single drop. When heart-broken farmers, in their sole desperate effort to save their crops, attempt to lift the gates at Juralu, the government is filing illegal cases against them and harassing the providers in every possible way.
To prevent farmers from entering the surroundings of the Juralu project located on Telangana soil, erecting barricades everywhere, deploying hundreds of police personnel around, stopping incoming farmers, and arresting them is an act of utter shamelessness.
Even though it is known that just 2 TMC is sufficient for drinking water needs, pushing the ayacut farmers under the project into crisis by not releasing even a drop from Juralu, which has 9 TMC, is an unforgivable crime. On behalf of BRS, we demand that the government immediately release the illegally arrested farmers and BRS leaders, and release irrigation water without delay to the Juralu ayacut farmers”. said KTR.
