Hyderabad: TRS leader and former minister Boda Janardhan criticized the Congress government, alleging that it is troubling farmers by failing to ensure an adequate supply of urea. Speaking to the media on Friday at the TRS office in Banjara Hills, he condemned the Central Government for praising the State Government despite its inability to procure farmers’ crops or ensure a proper supply of urea. He alleged that the Central and State governments are working together to deceive farmers.
Boda Janardhan said the government has failed to provide even basic urea supplies to farmers. He claimed that the app functions only for about half an hour in the morning and around 15 minutes in the afternoon, after which it displays “No Stock.” He questioned how farmers without smartphones or those living in areas with poor mobile connectivity are expected to use the system.
He said the app is causing hardship rather than benefiting farmers. If the objective is to curb black-market sales, he argued, there are several other ways to do so, and questioned why farmers alone are being burdened. He demanded that the app be withdrawn immediately and that urea be distributed based on farmers’ passbooks.
He also alleged that farmers faced similar problems last year due to inadequate urea supplies and said that even now, during the paddy transplantation season, sufficient urea has not been made available.
Boda Janardhan alleged that due to the Congress government’s failure, farmers were forced to burn crops grown on 900,000 acres. He said the government had promised to procure all the paddy produced by farmers but has failed to fulfill that promise. As a result, he claimed, farmers resorted to burning their crops.
He further alleged that the government initially promised a bonus for all varieties of paddy but later restricted it to fine varieties, and is now saying that only seven varieties are eligible. He accused the government of repeatedly deceiving farmers and severely harming their livelihoods.
He said it is surprising that the Central Government is praising what he described as an anti-farmer government. He asserted that farmers should not be subjected to injustice under any circumstances and said the BRS would continue to fight on their behalf and pressure the government to act in their interests.
