For those seeking a healthy diet in modern times, ‘Kala Namak’ rice, grown in the Siddharthanagar region of Uttar Pradesh, stands out as an excellent choice. With a history spanning nearly 2,600 years, this rice was cultivated during the time of Gautama Buddha; hence, it is also known as ‘Buddha Rice.’ Characterized by its black husk, it turns white and highly aromatic when cooked. This rice is rich in iron, zinc, and protein, acting as a life-saver (Sanjeevani) for those suffering from anemia.
The antioxidants found in this rice, such as ‘anthocyanins,’ not only improve heart health but also contribute significantly to skin beauty and the prevention of diseases like cancer. Since it is grown naturally without chemical fertilizers, it is safe for both the body and the environment. Furthermore, while diabetic patients often worry about the Glycemic Index (GI) when eating rice, Kala Namak rice has a very low GI (49–52), which helps keep blood sugar levels under control.
Due to its high fiber content, it aids smooth digestion and keeps issues like constipation at bay. It can be considered an ideal food for those looking to lose weight, as it provides a feeling of fullness for a longer duration after consumption. It is also abundant in Vitamin B, which improves brain function.
Health experts suggest that by replacing regular rice with this “mine of nutrients” in one’s daily diet, one can prevent heart disease and boost immunity. This superfood, which offers both taste and health, is now gaining global recognition for its unique properties.
