Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy paid rich tributes to Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on the occasion of his 135th birth anniversary in Hyderabad today, April 14, 2026. Participating in the official celebrations at the Mahatma Ambedkar statue near Lower Tank Bund, the Chief Minister garlanded the massive structure and reflected on the enduring legacy of the architect of the Indian Constitution. Addressing a large gathering, Reddy described Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Ambedkar as the “two eyes of the nation,” noting that while Gandhi led the struggle for independence, Ambedkar provided the structural and moral framework to govern the country with a focus on equality. He emphasized that the current state government, which he termed a “people’s government,” is deeply inspired by Ambedkar’s vision for the upliftment of the oppressed, including Dalits, Adivasis, backward classes, and women.
During his address, the Chief Minister highlighted several key policy decisions aimed at realizing Ambedkar’s ideals, specifically mentioning the categorization of SC sub-castes and the enhancement of BC reservations. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to education as the primary tool for social transformation, pointing to the rollout of the “Young India Integrated Residential Schools” across every Assembly constituency as a move to provide high-quality education to children from all backgrounds under one roof. Reddy also noted that since the Congress-led government took office, over 67,000 government jobs have been created, with 87% of these positions being awarded to candidates from SC, ST, BC, and minority communities.
The event also saw the participation of Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, who offered floral tributes at the HMDA Grounds and hailed Ambedkar as an extraordinary intellectual who established the foundations of the world’s largest democracy. Other cabinet ministers, including Ponnam Prabhakar and Jupally Krishna Rao, along with various MLAs and MLCs, joined in the commemorations. Chief Minister Reddy used the platform to contrast his government’s welfare focus with previous administrations, asserting that for the first time in the state’s history, significant increases in mess charges and cosmetic allowances have been provided to students in welfare hostels. He concluded by urging the public to safeguard the democratic values enshrined in the Constitution and to resist attempts to undermine the progress of marginalized sections in the southern states.
