Revanth Reddy Slams PM Modi Over Women’s Reservation: “A Political Mirage to Deceive the South”

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy launched a blistering attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, accusing the Centre of using the Women’s Reservation Bill as a “political Trojan horse” designed to mask the eventual reduction of political representation for Southern states.

Speaking at a public event in Mahabubnagar, Reddy claimed that the BJP-led Union Government has no genuine intention of empowering women in the immediate future, pointing to the legislative clause that links the implementation of the 33% quota to the completion of the controversial delimitation exercise.

“The Delimitation Trap”

The Chief Minister argued that by tying women’s empowerment to the redrawing of electoral boundaries based on population, the Prime Minister is setting a trap for states like Telangana and Tamil Nadu.

“On one hand, the PM talks about ‘Nari Shakti’ (Women’s Power), but on the other, he hides behind the screen of delimitation,” Revanth Reddy told the gathering. “Why wait until 2029 or 2031? If the BJP is sincere, they should implement the reservation today. The truth is that they want to use this bill to increase seats in the North while shrinking the voice of the South.”

Reddy’s criticism centers on the fear that Southern states, which successfully implemented population control measures, will be “punished” during the next delimitation. Under the proposed seat expansion in the Lok Sabha, the South’s percentage of total seats is expected to drop, a move Reddy describes as an “assault on federalism.”

Stepping up the rhetoric, the Chief Minister challenged the BJP’s track record regarding women in leadership positions within their own party structure. He questioned why the Centre had not acted on the 2026-27 Census data earlier if they were serious about social justice.

“This bill is a post-dated cheque on a crashing bank,” Reddy remarked, echoing a famous historical analogy. “They are promising women power in the future to steal the South’s power in the present.”

BRS and BJP: “Two Sides of the Same Coin”

Reddy did not limit his fire to the Centre, also attacking the opposition BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi). He accused the BRS of “stage-managing” protests on women’s rights in Delhi while failing to provide adequate cabinet representation for women during their ten-year rule in Telangana.

“While we are fighting to protect the rights of Telangana’s women and our state’s self-respect in Parliament, the BRS and BJP are engaging in shadow-boxing to confuse the public,” he added.
