Hyderabad, Feb 1: Excise Constable Gajula Soumya (25), who sustained critical injuries after being hit and trampled by a vehicle driven by marijuana smugglers in Nizamabad on January 23, passed away on Saturday night while undergoing treatment at NIMS Hospital, Panjagutta.
Soumya was initially admitted to a private hospital in Nizamabad and later shifted to NIMS on January 25 for advanced care. She was treated in the Respiratory Intensive Care Unit (RICU) on ventilator support under the supervision of a special medical team.
Despite the best efforts of the medical team, her condition continued to remain critical, and she breathed her last on Saturday night, hospital sources said.
Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha, Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao and other dignitaries had earlier enquired about Soumya’s health condition and extended support to her family members.
Soumya, a 2023 batch excise constable, hailed from Mosra, the mandal headquarters in Nizamabad district.
