Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 22: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor posted a message on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) regarding Team India Head Coach Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir responded to it, saying, “I am competing with my own team.”
Tharoor’s post came ahead of Team India’s first T20 match against New Zealand, where he shared his best wishes. He praised Gambhir, stating that after the Prime Minister, the Head Coach of the Indian cricket team has the toughest job in India. Tharoor shared this post following a meeting with Gambhir in Nagpur on Wednesday.
“Despite millions of people criticizing his decisions every day, Gambhir moves forward with great calm, determination, and silence. My congratulations to his effective leadership,” Tharoor noted in his post.
Gautam Gambhir replied: “Thanks. It will take a little more time for everything to settle. Then, the coach’s unlimited authority will materialize. However, in the meantime, it surprises me to see me being portrayed as against my own team members.”
Gambhir’s response has sparked significant discussion online. While he did not mention any specific names, he clearly indicated in the post that he currently does not have unlimited powers as a coach.
It is well-known that Gambhir’s coaching has faced backlash from Team India fans recently. Netizens have been trolling him even more on social media after India lost the recently concluded ODI series against New Zealand with a 1-2 margin.
